The history

A signature building from 1930

Kunstnernes Hus was designed by the architects Gudolf Blakstad and Herman Munthe-Kaas. The building from 1930 is considered one of the foremost examples of functionalism in Norway. In redecorating the building great store is put on preserving and emphasising the unique art deco and functionalist style. For example the tables and chairs are original 30s furniture built in Oslo and Stockholm, and the colours have been chosen from Courbusier’s palette. Our new bar, consisting of 160 moulded acrylic pipes, blends nicely into its surroundings!
